Greetings.

My name is Butch and I just got the link for your site from the FLOW board. I'm located in the Springville NY area, very close to the Cattaraugus Creek, my favorite paddle spot. I have been kayaking flat water for a few years and started white water last year.

Besides always looking for people and new places to paddle, my girl and I are interested in kayak fishing. We haven't done it yet but want to get started this spring. Hopefully We'll have a chance to meet and paddle with some of you, and get some advice on fishing equipment too. Very Happy

Hi Butch, thank you for joining. I have been doing allot of fishing out of the kayak myself and its a blast. If you ever want to meet up somewhere I'm game. I live in Henrietta so I'm sure we could hit some spots halfway between us. What type of fishing rig are you looking for? I am trying to get a trolling rig on my sit on top so I can go for lake trout and pike in the finger lakes.

Meeting up would be great. As far as what type of fishing rig, I'm at square 1. I will be looking for a decent starting outfit for a kayak suited for still or drift fishing, mostly in the small lakes around here. I also getting out to like Lake Erie, as I'm only about 40 minutes away.

Last season all I did was throw my pole in the back storage while paddling and pull it out when ready to fish. I am definitely getting some sort of anchor rig because you dont realize how much the wind will move you till you want to stay in one spot and cast. I am going to rig up either a rod holder or two so I can troll while I paddle, no reason you cant fish while paddling! I will take plenty of pictures when I start to rig my ride. I guess the trout are starting to run here on Irondequoit creek so I am going to try for some on Monday. I will let you know how it goes.

Hey Butch, we're always happy to see new members! I have recently been talking with the FLOW group about setting up events together. It seems like our two groups will work well together because they focus on whitewater, and we focus on quietwater, camping by boat and fishing. Between us we have all the bases covered! I'm a canoe person myself at this point, but I'm hoping to add a kayak to my "boathouse" this summer if the price is right. Be sure to check out the information on Spring Moosefest in the longer excursion section of the forum, I will have more information on that soon!

Thanks for joining, and I look forward to doing some fishing with you! ~Ryan
