PostSubject: Braddock's Bay Bosnian Beach BBQ   Sun May 02, 2010 10:20 pm

Hey there everyone. I went out Saturday afternoon to my usual spot, Braddock's Bay South to "my beach". The skies were foreboding and the waves were kicking at first. When passing under the Parkway bridge there must have been at least 30-40 hawks all circling, it was quite a sight (I should have got some pics of that!)! I reached the beach a short time later and took a break. A friendly black lab was waiting to receive me. The owner came over and apologized (no harm, he was curious!), and then proceeded to invite me to their lamb roast. I thought that I had sand in my ears at first. I walked over to say hi, and I have to say that I was quite impressed with their set-up. I'm no johnny-come-lately BBQ'er, mind you; I've smoked my fair share of meat! One couldn't help but be impressed. They had a full size hand-turned spit, complete with a dry-rubbed full-size lamb, and a pork shoulder roasting away right on the beach.

I apologize to them if they are reading this since I forgot most of their names (I told them of the site and let them know that these pics had to make it on the board!). Anyways, one of the guys,"Albin"; explained to me that this is a tradition to his people. Apparently, they do this every year (they live in the neighborhood). In Bosnian tradition they roast a lamb to signify and welcome the spring season. Albin and his younger brother moved here years ago. We shared some conversation and some beer (thus my forgetfulness with the names, oye!) and enjoyed the day. I even took a turn spinning the spit!

It always seems like you meet terrific people when you get out on the water! I then headed offshore to do a little fishing.

Click here for a short video (music courtesy of Allman Brothers Band).......

I headed back towards the launch, and came across a bunch of swans on the return paddle.

Just another great day and adventure on the water.

That is one hell of a setup they had on the beach! What a great party to stumble onto, did you get any lamb?

Is that a stereo I saw in one of your pictures? You have to post pics of the setup you have on your boat!

That lamb looks amazing. I hope you got a piece of it. The map looks like the fishing in the first section of that trip would be pretty good. Do you fish much there or just have the pole just in case you get bored? I have some days where I bring the pole but never touch it and vise versa.

It was very cool to come across. They were great people, very welcoming! As far as the radio, I almost always bring tunes with me. I bought a cheap boombox from WalMart, and I have an aux cable to plug in my ipod. I place it in my life jacket on the bow of the boat, to help keep it dry if the waves are coming in. Sometimes I just bring my ipod with headphones, but I dont like that as much. Coming back down that channel (especially at night), there can be alot of boat traffic and I need to hear whats coming. Plus, when I get to the beach I can rock out! They did give me a little of the lamb before heading back to their house (at which there was already a large party). It was delicious and smoky. They invited me to come to the house (which was very kind, considering I had just met them!) but I had to pick up my fiance a short while later and was unable to go. Ray, the fishing does seem to be good in the first part of the channel, but I'm just assuming that, since I am a horrible fisherman! I love to go but usually get nothing other than weeds! I do see a ton of people fishing the area, who probably know what they are doing. And I'm about the same when it comes to the pole, I usually bring it but dont always use it. If they start jumping around me then I will try some casts. If you have any fishing tips I'm all ears!
