I haven't done any real kayak trips in a while. I've been thinking about an overnight paddle or possibly 2 nights on the canal this summer just to get back into the swing of things. Does anyone know about camping along the canal between Spencerport and Middleport?

I dont know much about the camping situation but I would love to join in. Paddle camping is my favorite kind of camping. Keep me posted if you decide to do it or not.

I did a little research and came across a journal entry from 2 guys that paddled 166 miles on the canal last September. I wasn't thinking anything that extensive. Their article impies that "Stealth Camping" on canal property is more or less allowed. I would recommend this article to anyone thinking about a paddling excursion on the canal. It's a pretty cool story. You can find it by going to www.seakayaking.ws once on the "Seakayak Chesapeake Bay" site click on Index in the upper left and scroll down through trip reports. Click on NY - Erie canal 2009/09/08. Their article is titled "Clinton's Big Ditch."

Currently I am in the thinking stage about an overnight on the canal. I want to check things out a little more before I get too carried away with setting a date.

I've been thinking about a canal trip with camping myself! I know they run that big bike race every year and they camp in several places. I would love to set something up, maybe we should talk to the DOT/canal authority? If you come up with anything please let me know...I'm in!
